In partnership with these agencies, Elizabeth provides a child centred approach, which is needs led, and outcome focused. 

Elizabeth believes a child’s early years are the most influential in shaping their future. Children’s experiences and influences during their early developmental years forms their global development into adults and parents. All children and their parents are deserving of the right help and support at the earliest opportunity. 

Elizabeth is a registered Social Worker with Social Care Wales and a member of the British Association of Social Workers (BASW). Elizabeth has worked in front line statutory Children’s Social Care Services for 22 years. 

After working as a private nanny for 9 years across London and Chicago, Elizabeth returned to South Wales to develop her knowledge of early years development.

Elizabeth obtained a Higher National Diploma in Early Years Development in 1996 and qualified as a Social Worker in 2001.  Elizabeth’s first post as a newly qualified social worker was in a statutory front-line intake and referral team where she quickly developed her practice in child protection and safeguarding. After 18 months Elizabeth became a senior social worker and took on supervision and managerial responsibilities. Elizabeth remained in this role for 5.5 years until she took up employment with another Local Authority closer to her home. Within 6 months Elizabeth acted as a Team Manager for a Children with Disabilities Team, to share her knowledge and experience in child protection and safeguarding. Elizabeth then became the Team Manager of a Safeguarding Team where she remained for 7.5 years until she became the Local Authority’s Safeguarding Lead until 2023. 

Elizabeth’s responsibilities as the Safeguarding Lead were extensive. The role incorporated responsibilities such as the lead officer for Quality Assurance and since 2019 the responsibility of the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).  Elizabeth was also the senior manager for the (front door) Information, Advice & Assistance Service, the Independent Reviewing Service, and lead officer for Child Sexual Exploitation and Missing Children. 

Elizabeth was responsible for Professional Abuse Strategy Meetings, and has chaired many other complex multi-agency meetings as Safeguarding Lead. these include  Secure Accommodation Reviews, the Child & Adult Practice Review Group. Elizabeth is an experienced auditor, child practice reviewer and review chair. She is also an experienced investigator of grievances and complaints. Elizabeth left Local Authority work in June 2023, to return to social work with children, young people, and their families. She is the Company Director of EWJ Safeguarding & Social Work Consultancy Ltd, now offering a range of consultancy services to Local Authority’s, Voluntary Organisations and Children’s Safeguarding Boards

Elizabeth is also an experienced member of His Majesty’s Courts & Tribunal Service, having been a Magistrate for more than 10 years.
